Cork Cup – 27th and 28th May 2006

Glounthaune Utd U12 Girls took part in the “Cork Cup? at the Farm on the 27th and 28th May last. The girls played Harborough Town, Buttevant, Johnville and Carriagline. A special mention to the girls who gave fantastic performances: Emer Cronin, Cliona Fitzpatrick, Susan Lynch, Niamh Quirke, Hollie McNamara, Christina Killian, Alison Murphy, Maeve Byron, Emma O’Keeffe, Orla Barry, Orlaith Keane, Abby Cronin, Emma Gannon, Ciara Barry, Aoife Revins, Jayne Bruen, Jennifer Murphy, Jessica Spillane and Bronagh Daly.

The final was against Harborough Town and what an exciting final it was!! The match ended 1 – 1 with Orlaith Keane scoring. After extra time the sides were still level so on to the dreaded penalty shoot out! After some fantastic goals and saves we lost a sporting match on sudden death. This was an outstanding performance from the girls! Well done to all concerned.

Glounthaune Utd boys also took part in the “Cork Cup? were we entered teams U13, U12 and U10. The U13 boys were unfortunate to lose to Leeds 3 – 2 in extra time earning them 4th place. The U12 boys beat Riverstown to give them 3rd place. The U10 boys had a busy campaign, beating Bridge Reds, drawing with St. Francis and were unlucky to be beaten by Blarney and also had a superb 5 – 0 victory over Riverstown. The boys were unfortunate to lose the semi final to Ringmahon. Coming 2nd in the tournament was a great achievement and well done to all concerned!
